First Adventures

Firstly: I had intended on posting a blog a day. Seems like that plan fell through within 4 days of starting.. Woops.

On to more important things: Shanghai is busy. It’s crowded, noisy, and rude. It’s hot and humid, sticky and sweaty. It’s a true city, it doesn’t sleep, and it’s big. I mean, it’s population alone is more than that of the entire Netherlands, while Holland has more than 6 times the amount of space within its boundaries.
I absolutely love it.
I must admit, I haven’t had the time to go exploring properly. My trips so far have been pretty limited to traveling back and forth between the apartment I’m staying at and the area around Fudan University. Yes, I know it sounds like I’ve been incredibly lazy. No, I haven’t neglected my blog to sit on the couch with a big bag of popcorn.

The metro system here is absolutely brilliant (clean, unbelievably cheap, and in English!), but it took me 2 hours to get from here to Fudan the first time I tried. Of course I got lost. The times it has gone well, however, have taken around an hour and a half of my time. Rather than having to wake up before 6am to be able to make class at 8, I’ve decided that I need to find more permanent lodgings nearer to the university. And soon. So, I’ve been apartment hunting! Hurray to independence.

I visited Fudan University itself yesterday to officially register as a Chinese Language Student. Turns out that the course doesn’t actually start until a week after registration.
Plenty of time to go exploring.
